"If enacted, the 'George Zimmerman Everywhere Act' would override state laws on who can carry a hidden, loaded handguns in public and would require every state to recognize every other state’s permits for hidden, loaded handguns in public -- including states that have weak or almost nonexistent safety requirements."

"Concealed carry reciprocity throws each state’s carefully evaluated gun violence prevention policies out the window in favor of an NRA-endorsed race to the bottom. Ironically, during his speech last Friday, President Trump declared “Our administration will always stand with the incredible men and women of law enforcement.” Yet the Trump administration and its congressional allies ignore law enforcement opposition to concealed carry reciprocity legislation, including from the Major Cities Chiefs Association, the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Police Foundation, the Police Executive Research Forum and numerous others."

"The NRA is trying to gut our gun laws -- putting our communities and our families at risk.

Right now, they're pushing an extremely dangerous policy they call "Concealed Carry Reciprocity" that would force your state to abide by the weakest gun laws in the nation -- and there's nothing your state will be able to do about it."

"This extreme legislation is a dangerous encroachment on individual state efforts to protect public safety that would effectively nullify duly enacted state laws and hamper law enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence."

"[The bill seeks]to address the problem of law-abiding concealed carry permit holders having to negotiate a confusing maze of laws, reciprocity agreements, and recognition statutes when they travel out of state. The bills would grant the same reciprocal rights to CCW holders as for drivers’ licenses and marriage certificates (q.v., 10th amendment)."

There is now legislation in committee which would force states and DC to honor permits issued by other states. Both bills seek to address the problem of law-abiding concealed carry permit holders having to negotiate a confusing maze of laws, reciprocity agreements, and recognition statutes when they travel out of state. The bills would grant the same reciprocal rights to CCW holders as for drivers’ licenses and marriage certificates (q.v., 10th amendment).
